2022 Summer Concerts

June has seen two very different musical outings for me. One choral and one solo piano.

GBHCF’s Platinum Jubilee Performance at Icklefest

I was delighted to be a part of the first LIVE meeting of the Great British Home Chorus Friends for their jubilee performance at Icklefest in Ickleford, Hertfordshire. Members traveled from all over the UK, and some even from as far afield as Australia and the USA! The choir had one “in person” rehearsal on the day and I was blown away by how beautiful they sounded, how well their voices blended together.

They opened the first day of the four day long event Icklefest with a programme which included my arrangements of ‘Thank You For The Music’ and ‘O Waly Waly’, as well as songs from their EP and the commonwealth song ‘A Life Lived With Grace’, which was sung as the beacon was lit.

It was lovely to be able to meet the choir members in real life and put a face to the avatars! This was a really special day and one which none of us will forget.

Isolation, Preludes, and Improvisations

This lunchtime concert was performed by Késia Decoté as part of the Eglesfield Music Society concert series. It took place in the beautiful Shulman Auditory of Queens College, Oxford.

For this concert, Késia created a dialogue between my ‘Isolation’ piano miniatures and preludes by historical composers. She punctuated the programme with her specialty: one minute improvisations on the toy piano.

This was such a wonderful programme for me; Késia instinctively chose to pair my miniatures with preludes by composers who I love and who’s music has been an inspiration to me.
